from the Book of Shadows of a Solitary Witch:
Ways Everyone Can Honor Lughnasadh in a Time of Social Isolation
Here we are once more, thank you for allowing me to share a few ideas from my Book of Shadows. These are a few of the ways I honor the season of Lughnasadh as a Solitary Practitioner of the Craft. May you find the beauty of receiving the gifts of the season and fruits of your labors.
Wildcraft
Take time outside to enjoy, learn about and collect the bounty of Mother Earth. Begin to gather medicinals and edibles to dry or make oil, honey or alcohol infusions to support whatever health needs may come up through the rest of the year.
Put up preserves
With all the berries and fruit you may have wildcrafted, it is a great time to can, dehydrate, make jams, chutneys or whatever your favorite method of preserving the goodness of the first harvest for seasons to come.
Meditate on being open to receive
One of the important and often overlooked part of Lughnasadh is graciously receiving. Spend time in gentle meditation, challenging any ideas that come up for you that limit your openness to receiving abundantly.
Create a receiving journal
One of my favorte activities is making healing art. Most of us are aware of how gratitude journaling can shift our perspective, what about also giving attention to receiving. Write down comments, compliments, deeds, personal victories, gifts, money anything that you receive throughout the season. Especially the ones that make you uncomfortable or in anyway question if you are worth it or if it is too much. Now create something beautiful, draw, paint, color or collage the statement of receiving. While you do affirm the gift/compliment, breathe deeply and let the euphoric feeling of being worthy of receiving sink into your very cells and become a beautiful part of who you are.
Honor the Bees
Without the work of our little polinating buddies we would not have the bounty we are so greatful for. A few ways we can honor theirs gifts could be to make your own humainely sourced beeswax candles. There are also so many recipes that will use the anti-microbial qualities of honey. Not to mention added to fruits, sun teas and food. Make a batch of cornbread and top them with honey letting it bake into the bread. YUMMY
Leave baskets of fruits and nuts on people's porches...share the bounty of your havest with others...
